United States Residence Verification

UNITED STATES RESIDENCE VERIFICATION

The Consulate General of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Chicago issues certificates of residence in the United States for our citizens in case of their permanent return to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The certificate is issued to individuals who have lived in the United States for a consecutive period of 12-months, or at least 12-months with breaks in a period of four years.

For the issuance of a certificate of residence it is necessary to submit the following documents:

1. Copy of a valid passport of Bosnia and Herzegovina

2. Proof of date of entry into the United States (copy of  a green card or I-94 can be used as proof);

3. Proof of permanent return to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This proof consists of the following:

a. A statement in which the individual retuning to Bosnia and Herzegovina states the following:  Under full moral, material, and criminal liability I, _____, declare that on the day of _____, I am permanently returning to Bosnia and Herzegovina and am requesting the issuance of a certificate of residence (specify purpose, i.e. in order to implement the rights on customs privileges.

b. Copy of a one-way airplane ticket

c. Proof of abandonment of the United States.

for example: a letter from an employer which states the basis of termination of employment, poof of payment  for the transport of items in a container from the United States to Bosnia and Herzegovina, proof of sale of property in the United States, proof of termination of a lease, or proof of closing of bank accounts in the United States

4. A money order or a cashier's check for the set amount (link)

IMPORTANT: Goods exempt from customs duties are : personal property, personal baggage and cargo of non-commercial character, which the individual returning  held for longer than six (6) months. The final decisions on exempting goods from customs duties are made by the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina – regional offices.
